On October 3, 2020 I had the distinct pleasure of working with Taylor and Dakota, two high school sweethearts who have been figuring life out together for over eleven years. These love birds, like most couples of 2020, had a serious change of plans before finally settling on getting married in Hoquiam, Washington on a relatives property that backs up to the Olympic Natioanl Forest.
While the venue may have been out of left field, their date certainly wasn’t as they will now share an anniversary with their grandparents who were celebrating their 61st year together on that day. Another ode to their roots came in the form of communion which was solemnly held during their ceremony, and again when Taylor's grandfather unveiled a song he had written especially for this sweet couple.
Although this couple obviously lends credence to their beginnings, they spent the day looking forward to their forever together in this beautiful woodsy ceremony set against red accents and lace. They were able to manage a wedding party of sixteen- which let me know that this couple has plenty of love surrounding them for the coming years, and the grace and kindness they showed not only to one another but to everyone around them was enough to bring a tear to your eye.
Working in photography brings me to a lot of breathtaking and exotic places, but sometimes I find the most beautiful ceremonies happen in an uncle's backyard, with grandpa strumming a guitar and lots of laughter and inside jokes coursing through the festivities. These are the weddings that I absolutely live for, the ones where two people who have been holding one another for eleven years finally make the leap into ‘forever’ by announcing their love for all of the world to hear. I cannot wait to see where life takes these two, and I am so thankful to have had the opportunity to share in this moment with them.
